Bangladesh lures Pakistan for outsourcing

Slowly but steadily, Bangladesh also seems to be keen on sharing a pie of the outsourcing cake. Recently, the country has bagged the outsourcing work on textiles from Pakistan. Pakistan is known for its textile industry and exports from the country is increasing day-on-day.

Textile owners from Pakistan have eyed Bangladesh for its lower labour costs and government tax incentives. Makers of bed linens, readymade garments and knitwear have begun shifting operations to areas around Dhaka. News is that as many as 20 textile units in Pakistan have identified places in Bangladesh to shift their production units. The move to Bangladesh is expected to reduce the production costs by almost by half.

Textile companies are also responding to European anti-dumping duties on Pakistani products. Those duties do not apply to Bangladesh, which retains strong cultural and religious bonds with Pakistan.
