Sun Star Manila reports that the 31st Philippine Business Conference (PBC) is to be held in Manila between October 11 and 13, and high on the agenda is identifying opportunities for ventures into the call center and BPO industry. The meet will also provide an opportunity to the participants to interact with some of the industrialists who are already a part of the outsourcing industry.
The Business Process Association of the Philippines is convinced of the rapid growth strides made by the BPO sector. This growth is also emphasized by the trade department which records a total of 132,000 jobs in the various BPO industries. George Siy, PBC chairman and member of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), expressed the view that in the face of the multi-fold increase in the BPO market, there is plenty of opportunity for enterprises to take advantage of the situation, and this will lead to a healthy competitive environment that will auger well for the Filipino. Sun Star Manila reports on the achievements of the BPO industry:
With billings of US$490 million last year, call centers will bill US$1 billion this year, according to Mitchelle Locsin, president of the Business Process Association of the Philippines (Bpap). This means that in one year, the growth of the BPO industry outstrips our exports of entire traditional industries. From less than US$150 million revenues in 2000, the whole BPO industry may have close to US$2 billion in revenue this year including operations in accounting, insurance processing, telemarketing, legal and medical transcription, animation, etc.
