Within the Business Process Outsourcing umbrella, the largest and fastest growing segment is Human Resources Outsourcing. With total volume more than doubling from $545 million in the first quarter of 2004 to $1.7 billion in the first quater of 2005 this should come as no surprise. While Indian call centers have recieved the bulk of domestic press covering the issue, there exist a very wide variety of human resource services provided in nations such as India. These numbers also indicate the increasingly dominant role that western outsourcing firms are playing in the domestic economies of many outsourcing destination countries. And with recent legal developments in India in which the government has altered a number of financial practices to protect western banks, some critics are raising questions as to whether growing outsourcing of this nature is inhibiting the independence and sovereignity of such nations. ZDNet Reports:
Human resources outsourcing is the fastest growing and largest segment of the broader business process outsourcing market. Total contract value more than doubled from $545 mln in the Q1 2004 to $1.7 bln in Q1 2005, TPI says.
