In recent months Costa Rica has attempted to position itself as an alternative outsourcing destination rivalling that of China and India. An announcement this week that Intel will expand its workforce there, while Trax Holdings will hire approximately 50 employees has furthered that goal. While the gains are relatively small compared to those of its rival outsourcers, they do signal the fact that larger firms are now considering Costa Rica not only as a secondary or tertiary location, but also as a primary outsourcing destination. This is particularly evidenced in Intel's expansion of its already established presence in Costa Rica. Additionally, the Trax Holdings contract may lead to future outsourcing contracts, as the Costa Rican base will serve much larger clients through Trax Holdings. TechWeb Reports:
CINDE said the new Trax operation will help the firm support clients such as Apple Computer, EMC Corp., CompUSA, Chevron Texaco, and Ford Motor Company.
