The Miami Herald reports on the oft-cited IBM outsourcing situation:
"'IBMers are really hunkered down because of job cuts,' said Lee Conrad, national coordinator for Alliance@IBM, a group trying to unionize IBM employees. 'They know that these job cuts sweep through on a regular basis. Senior employees are being targeted, so they're not going to raise their heads up.'
"'Even the critics realize that there are competitive pressures on firms to cut costs and increase quality,' he said. 'What IBM is doing is similar to other firms. They will be adding IT (information technology) employees abroad at the same time they are adding jobs domestically.'"
IBM has been in the spotlight for quite some time, but even more interesting are the small businesses that have begun to outsource.
